Why treat Diarrhoea?

Diarrhoea doesn't have to disrupt your life.

IMODIUM® can provide comfort and relief

If you suffer from diarrhoea, it’s often better to treat it early.  By treating diarrhoea you can feel better and get on with your day. Treating diarrhoea can help reduce the loss of fluids and salts.

There are three key things you can do to lessen the symptoms of diarrhoea:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking fluids
  • Eat balanced meals regularly
  • Use an IMODIUM® product*

*If symptoms last longer than 48 hours, you develop a fever over 38°C, or you have blood or mucus in your stools, you should seek medical advice.

Treat with an IMODIUM® product

Normally your digestive system works in a steady, natural rhythm, which allows it to absorb vital salts and water into the body. However, if something upsets the natural balance of your intestines, your system can go into overdrive and as a result, it absorbs less salts and water. This leaves your stools loose or watery. IMODIUM® works by helping settle the intestines back into their natural rhythm, to relieve diarrhoea and help you get back to feeling like yourself.

Restoring water and salts

IMODIUM® products can help relieve diarrhoea symptoms, but you should also keep drinking plenty of fluids to maintain good hydration.

Why do I get diarrhoea?

Diarrhoea is a condition that is different for every individual. There is a range of causes that can tip the balance of our sensitive digestive systems. For most people it’s occasional, a tummy bug or travel related. Some people suffer more frequently, and for them it can be changes in food (diet) and mood (i.e. excess stress) that can trigger a bout of diarrhoea. When your body is out of rhythm, IMODIUM® products work by gently slowing your digestion down.
